Why your ridge capping matters
The weak point on most tile roofs
The ridge caps along the top and hips of a tiled roof are held down by bedding (a sand and cement base) and sealed with pointing. Over time the sun, heat and roof movement crack the pointing and loosen the bedding. Water then runs straight in under the caps, and in strong wind the caps can lift or fall.
Repointing and rebedding is one of the best-value jobs you can do on a tiled roof. It stops leaks at the source and adds years to the life of the roof.
What's included
- Repointing. Old, cracked pointing removed and replaced with flexible pointing that moves with the roof instead of cracking.
- Rebedding. Loose or damaged ridge caps lifted, old bedding cleared and the caps re-laid on fresh bedding.
- Broken tile replacement. Any cracked or broken tiles found along the way swapped for matching tiles.
- Gable and valley checks. The areas around the ridges inspected while we're up there, with anything else flagged before we start.

Do I need to rebed, or just repoint?
If the caps are firm, repointing alone is often enough. If they're loose or have moved, they need rebedding first. We'll show you what we find.
